Annual Report From Hon. Secretary John Towner 2009

The 2009 cricket season finished with Bodiam successfully winning 15 games and losing only 4. Regrettably we were knocked out of the Observer Cup in the semi-final yet again but accounted for Westfield, Beckley, Iden and Northiam on the way.

Highlights of the season were Adam Chapman scoring his first hundred for the club and Tom Rose claiming his second hundred in two seasons. Veterans Bob Pook and Steve Seabridge topped the bowling and batting averages respectively. Youngster Jack Davies grabbed his first 5 wicket haul at Moulscombe and Matt Towner amassed the most runs for the season (430 in 15 innings).

The pitch played well up until July when, due to the shortage of rain, huge cracks appeared once again and several fielders disappeared into the abyss (not really!)

Indoor cricket has recently finished. We won the Indoor Division Two Weekend League without losing a game and in the Indoor Division One Midweek League we ended up in third place.

Looking ahead to the coming season we have revised the fixture list and will now be playing Newenden, Ashburnham, Ninfield and Chiddingly for the first time. Unfortunately the team will not reach full strength this season until the Universities break for the summer.

Thankyou all for your continued support and membership of our very successful village cricket club and wish you all the best for 2010.

Kind regards,

John Towner

(Hon. Secretary)
